Community based habitat access program (cbhap)
In 2017 Pheasant Country established the Mitchell Area Community Based Habitat Access Program (CBHAP) to provide producers with an extra monetary incentive to enroll eligible lands into both the CRP program, and the SD Game Fish, and Parks Department Special Access and Habitat Program (Walk-In-Area).
Pheasant hunting in South Dakota is a driving economic force that brings over 8 million dollars to Mitchell businesses every year. However, Mitchell and the surrounding area provides very few hunting locations that are open to the public. Davison County currently has the 3rd fewest public hunting acres in the state of South Dakota. The Pheasant Country chapter of Pheasants Forever has set aside enough money to bring more than 4,000 acres of public hunting land into the area to improve the hunting in the Mitchell area for resident and non-resident hunters alike, and in turn bring more business, and more hunter’s dollars back into the community.
Producers who sign up for a CRP contract with the Farm Service Agency, and for a SD Game, Fish, and Parks Special Access and Habitat Program contract within 40 miles of Mitchell will receive an extra sign-up incentive to go on top of the payments they will receive from the FSA and SD Game, Fish, and Parks Department.
If you are a producer who is interested in enrolling in the program, or a business owner interested in making a donation to help fund this project, please contact our local Pheasants Forever Farm Bill Biologist, xxx at either \\\\@pheasantsforever.org or 605-xxx-3298.
